“Lisa”, a Los Angeles undocumented immigrant who requested her real name withheld, used to get $190 per month from food stamps, but stopped taking benefits for fear of deportation. She heard about Every Kid Fed through her child’s elementary school, and they are now frequent visitors. “Because I’m unauthorized, I’m scared of getting food stamps now to feed my eligible American-born child,” she said.
There’s been a significant uptick in immigrant families foregoing public services like Medicaid, school lunch programs, and WIC, a federal food assistance program for pregnant moms and children, due to the Trump administration's tough stance on immigration. “I rather not receive assistance than to be separated from my child, I’m thankful that the food pantry can help me feed my child.” As we all know, less access to food is associated with a higher risk of poor health outcomes, like nutrient deficiency and poor cognitive development for kids, as well as more hospitalizations. If you know a family that is struggling, offer help. If it’s fiscally feasible, put extra snacks in your child’s lunch bag to share with friends who you know may not have anything to eat. Invite them over for dinner, if possible. This is a community effort. Child advocacy is essential, so let’s spread love, kindness and do our part in making sure every child thrives. ♥️🌟

Hello everyone, we are working overtime to help feed local families that have been affected by the partial government shutdown, and actively preparing to aid recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, known as food stamps) and Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) benefits at our locations.
If the shutdown continues through March, there will be no remaining funding for SNAP, endangering food security for millions of Americans.

In addition, WIC is not receiving federal funds at all during the shutdown, but "can continue to operate at the state and local level with any funding and commodity resources that remain available," according to the USDA.

Child Nutrition Programs, including School Lunch, School Breakfast, Child and Adult Care Feeding, Summer Food Service and Special Milk will continue operations through February, according to the USDA.

If you are a parent and need assistance, please email our executive assistant Elaine, at: elaine.morin@everykidfed.org. If you would like to help in any way, please visit our donation page at everykidfed.org/donate. Thank you! 🌟 #governmentshutdown
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. 🌟🌟🌟
You can always help us end childhood hunger in schools by donating non-perishable food, grocery gift cards, or through our donation page. Every donation goes directly to stocking our pantries with food, and will allow us to open more pantries and feed more food insecure children in elementary schools. 🌟🌟🌟
Since launching in July 2017, we have now fed over 8,200 students. Thank you for supporting us, and we hope you will make an impact this Giving Tuesday! 💜
