Shanay Thompson, MPH
Founder and Executive Director
Shanay Thompson is a fourth year medical student and medical contributor at NBC. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley in Molecular and Cell Biology and Journalism. She then went directly into graduate school, receiving her Master’s degree in Public Health in 2014, also from the University of California, Berkeley with an emphasis in Maternal and Child Health - changing poor health outcomes in medically underserved populations.
Ms. Thompson is also an at-risk mentor to teen girls of color and a social entrepreneur - who founded her nonprofit Every Kid Fed in 2017, feeding food insecure children in public elementary schools.
Ms. Thompson has been featured in Forbes, Huffington Post, CNN, and highly respected fashion magazines Vogue and Elle during her years as a Wilhelmina and New York Fashion Week model. She served as the youngest board member in history with Susan G. Komen ‘Advocates in Science’ and was also honored on international television with the Making a Difference award at the 2018 Black Girls Rock award show on BET.
Her skills uniquely span the fields of medicine, science, public health, communications and global media.
Ms. Thompson lives in California and is an avid yogi, enjoys fashion, plant-based food and traveling the world.
Elaine is a graduate from San Francisco State University, earning her degree in Business Administration. Elaine is deeply passionate about assisting children in need. In her free time she enjoys watching the Bachelor, hiking, traveling, cooking new recipes for her husband and two children, and enjoying her two dogs.
